For those who don't know, I am a paediatric nurse and I really like my job.
After days like today though, not only do I really like my job, I LOVE my job.
Today was one of those days where the magical moments makes the mundane worth it.
Batman and Lego: THE most intelligent, confident, amazing 4 year old you will ever meet in your life: PERIOD.
Everyone who came into contact with him, literally said the exact same thing.
We met for the first time last week, I whizzed him and his parents around theatres on a scooter, with a magic wand in preparation for probably one of the most life changing events of his life.
I don't know why I happened to the be the one who got the opportunity to build this bond with this family, but I'm so grateful it was me.
I told his mum that I really believe that God plans certain things for a reason. Even within a situation as crap as the one that they were currently in; even with situations where there is a massive loss of control. It's an opportunity to see the silver lining in the cloud. Though it must seem so much easier for me to say right? Sitting on my side of the room. Only looking in through the window, whilst she is in the kitchen - dealing with the heat.
I told her that I have no idea why I met them or why they met me, but that I'm praying for them. I told them that Batman and lego is an absolute dream and a testament to them as parents. Though life may be crumbling around you, if you exemplify the good the good will surely show through.
And that light really shone through them! As a family unit, and as parents. That love shined bright and it was a beautiful thing to witness first hand.
Whilst speaking to Mum, I couldn't but help and reiterate a point that she already made but using a verse I remembered from the bible..
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
God is always and will always be in control.
Step by step, one day at a time.
I saw Mum again just before I left to go home this evening and I asked if I could give her a hug. I received the biggest hug that I have ever felt in my life, and I almost cried with her.
Its easy to forget the parents in the midst of looking after children.
But I'm so glad that I didn't. I'm so glad that I took the time to just sit with them.
